Explore Idaho
Idaho is where strategically important clean technologies and industries can grow with confidence.
Idaho gives companies a stable place to make long-term investments in advanced energy and manufacturing. Specialized facilities and technical expertise help projects move through validation, safety review, construction and production – stages that are especially demanding for nuclear semiconductor technologies. Predictable operating conditions make it easier to plan beyond the next milestone.

Key Clean Energy Projects
Expanding America’s Semiconductor Manufacturing Capacity
Company / Partners: Micron Technology, U.S. Depart. of Commerce
Micron Technology is investing $15 billion to increase semiconductor manufacturing in Boise, one of the largest private investments in Idaho’s history. In the spring of 2026, the first Boise fabrication reached cleanroom “blowdown,” preparing the facility for manufacturing equipment, with initial DRAM output planned for 2027. The fabrication’s location alongside Micron’s existing research operations links later-stage technology development directly with high-volume production.
Impact:
- Advances the first Boise fabrication toward production in 2027
- Increases domestic semiconductor capacity
- Connects semiconductor research with high-volume manufacturing
- Creates thousands of manufacturing and engineering jobs
Advancing the Next Generation of Nuclear Energy
Company / Partners: Oklo, Idaho National Lab., U.S. Depart. of Energy
Oklo is building the Aurora Powerhouse at Idaho National Laboratory, one of the nation’s first commercial advanced reactor projects developed through the Department of Energy’s Reactor Pilot Program. DOE approved the project’s Preliminary Documented Safety Analysis in June 2026, following approval of its Nuclear Safety Design Agreement in March. These milestones advance the project through federal salary review while construction continues.
Impact:
- Moves a commercial advanced reactor through construction and federal safety review
- Establishes a foundation for future Aurora deployments
- Connects private investment with specialized nuclear facilities
- Advances carbon-free power for growing industrial demand
Rapidly Validating Advanced Reactor Technology
Company / Partners: Aalo Atomics, Idaho National Lab.
Aalo Atomics brought its commercial-scale Critical Test Reactor to criticality in July 2026, less than eight months after breaking ground. The milestone validated the reactor’s physics, control systems, fueling procedures and supply chain at commercial scale. The zero-power reactor uses a full-scale core and tested Aalo’s ability to build, fuel and operate a facility from the ground up.
Impact:
- Achieves reactor criticality in less than eight months
- Validates core systems and fueling procedures at commercial scale
- Advances a second reactor toward electricity generation
- Shortens the path from reactor design to commercial deployment
