Washington legislature passes bill to establish statewide transmission authority to strengthen the grid

The Washington State Legislature has passed Senate Bill 6355 to establish the Washington Electric Transmission Authority, a new entity tasked with planning, siting, and financing transmission infrastructure to relieve grid congestion and enable the deployment of clean energy across the state.

The new Washington transmission authority will help proactively identify and advance high-priority transmission projects, partner with developers to move projects forward that utilities are not positioned to build, and expand or upgrade existing transmission infrastructure. Strengthening transmission planning and financing will also help position the state to access diverse, low-cost clean energy resources across the broader regional grid.
